Geocache Description:

The Yarra Expedition Part 8: Yarra Glen to Spadoni's reserve

Paddle the path, and journey to the source. These are not metaphors. They are instructions.

The Event Series
This is the 8th event in an expedition to cache along the entire course of the Yarra river. The purpose of this event series is to travel the river from its end to beginning and see it in all its form, its diversity, who it homes, its changes, bends and beauty. The 8th event will have us meeting at Yarra Glen.

The Event PART 8
The event wil be held at the posted coordinates at 9AM. The event will run for 30min where there will be a chance to catch up and chat, and wish us well as we embark on the next leg of the journey which involves kayaking the river.

Following the event

At 9:30am we will launch from Yarra Glen where we will traverse the 7km to Spadoni's reserve. From there It is a 200m walk to the carpark where we can sort out the usual car shuffle.

We aim to be be at the finish trailhead by 2:30pm. This is an estimate from speaking with others who have done the river. We could much earlier or later.

In summary:

9AM event.

9:30 Dock and paddle.

2:30pm arrive Spadoni's and depart for optional lunch.

The Paddle

After the sensational time on the river last event, I'm hanging to once again explore the river.

As per the notes from Whitehorse Canoe Club:

'For the entire length the banks are heavily lined with Silver Wattle and Willow Trees. In the first half of the section, the river banks are heavily eroded with trees often falling into the water. In the second half, the banks improve and paddling is unhindered. Cattle are curious observers and can be seen drinking from the river's edge. Numerous small sand beaches that have formed on the inside of the bends can be used as a convenient place to stop'.

Considerations

If you have joined us on previous expeditions, you'll know to expect ANYTHING. You undertake this journey at your own caution - I am venturing forth into these expeditions with you.

You will need to bring your own Kayak, lifevest, paddle.

Bring sunscreen, lunch snacks and lots of water! A change of clothes wouldn't go astray either :)
