Destined never to be used but always a dream . William Murray Ross built the never to be used Rosstown Railway first in 1883 and then had to be redone in 1887-8 due to the shoddiness of the original build. It was to carry produce from his other failed venture in the area the sugar beet mill.( the Northern Queensland Sugar cane industry would have probably ended it time anyway. ) There was a lot of concern from the market gardeners in the area that his mill would use all the water supply available in the area. The railway fell into disrepair quickly as did the sugar beet mill. Carnegie was known as Rosstown until the early 1900's but its namesake hotel still stands on Dandenong Road in Carnegie North. The railway would have been useful in today's age as it would have linked the Dandenong Line /go under the Frankston Line and eventually meet Sandringham Line at Elsternwick.
According to Ross, there was one journey along the railway line on 14th November 1888. Among invited guests on board was Sir Thomas Bent, the prominent politician and future premier of Victoria (1904-09) and after whom Bentleigh was named. This cache is dedicated to him.
The cache is a small size - in a place slightly stretching of the hiding rules - swappables could be placed inside but are unable to be completely sealed. Enclosed Pencil and log present. Medallion for FTF goes to sezzy2683 with joint finder angelique anja.
It is near a muggle path that is now reopened after work on the Skyrail has been completed - look Lt and Rt before retrieving and replacing it. Please reconstruct and replace as you found.
