Web site link from a log on 8th January 2016. makes a good read. http://www.abingdon.gov.uk/feature-articles/river-stert-culvert-abingdon
Please could I be told when the paper is getting low so I can go and replace (or send log paper sheet as file on Microsoft publisher to someone doing soon, saves me going down there). A ladder or foot loop, climbing kit, carabina. sling is another quick way. use railing above entrance. A cache I had fun on a sunday afternoon placing in November, was getting dark at 4.20pm when finished. After about 20m in my dingy bottomed out and I got out and walked with just wellies on with no problems. Leave floatation device at the first cast iron pipe, what I did with it's rope around the pipe. This tunnel takes the water from the stream under Stert street and it starts at the tunnel here under the vets. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=N+51%C2%B0+40.395+W+001%C2%B0+16.917+&ie=UTF8&ll=51.673287,-1.281978&spn=0.001194,0.003227&t=h&z=19 Found this in a long word document on memories of Abingdon. The main stream, years ago, flowed open through Stert St, giving the Street its name. Always wanted to have a look here, known it was there and leaning over the stone bridge at entry point can see the way in, never had the reason to do before today, or a floatation device to get there. Got in mind to get to at least this bit here on link below. At 2nd rain water downpipe from door at church is a round drain cover on the ground. Stream goes under here. https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=ox14+1pp&hl=en&ll=51.670233,-1.281002&spn=0.000013,0.012907&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=9.274229,26.433105&t=h&hnear=Abingdon+OX14+1PP,+United+Kingdom&z=17&layer=c&cbll=51.670156,-1.280972&panoid=1PNPm04jUyacxtwSH63i0w&cbp=12,46.71,,0,4.56 Found this November 2018 playing on google maps. Cover on ground shown better as closer than normal street view. https://www.google.com/maps/@51.6700155,-1.281531,3a,75y,40h,66.12t/data=!3m8!1e1!3m6!1sAF1QipMSTPOBUEjhbXNXrmbfb7rRRtJRbGths1Yy2g5O!2e10!3e11!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipMSTPOBUEjhbXNXrmbfb7rRRtJRbGths1Yy2g5O%3Dw203-h100-k-no-pi-16.09375-ya351.10416-ro-0-fo100!7i7680!8i3840 Shame people can't really get up the lot as it looses height, to hard and the air not the worlds best. Got upto the pizza place by the walk through to Abbey close maybe. far as I could go. So where is it. About 12m after the drain cover with small holes in by the church (given google map link), right hand side up high where nice stone and modernish brick arch is.also by a piece of small rusty iron plate and 1 bolt. Shout up to person you are with then not 12m from there, maybe a bit less. Please put something in front to stop it slipping. Brick, a large stone, something like that. Extra points if you find the flat bit in the wall about 25cm by 40cm, up near the church and before the cache I think (doing from memory). Someone called bradey was down there in 1945 was wrote on the flat bit. Was he a workman down there for a reason or just having a look as a member of the public, proberly a lot more normal then. Try and not been seen as you are going in. Is all a bit strange and don't want someone complaining. My easier other tunnel based cache (no floatation device needed) is this. http://coord.info/GC4TXRG Not quite as hard but 3 foot head height so a lot of bending. http://coord.info/GC4V5DA Another wet one. http://coord.info/GC59JD0 Last Abingdon based wet one of mine. http://coord.info/GC5Y9PD My Oxford underground stream one. http://coord.info/GC5X7TW Last water based cache I set up, this is in Wantage. https://coord.info/GC6QVX0 My friend Jason's underground stream one at Marston I help set up. https://coord.info/GC7893J Toilets in the small car park near where all the way points are on old stone bridge.
