The Cidade de Barcelos Stadium made its debut on May 30, 2004 with a football match between Gil Vicente FC and Club Nacional de Football of Montevideo (0-2). It replaces the Barcelos former stadium, Campo Adelino Ribeiro Novo.
The pleasant aesthetics of this construction comes from the atractive visual balance between metal and concrete structure and its suspended flaps covering the south and west sections with steel rods 26 meters wide as if it were a metal web.
The stadium its rated in C category from UEFA, which allows international matches, including the national teams matches.
Given its 12,000 covered seats and modern functionality, its considered one of the best stadiums to watch football in the country.
