The arbel area was getting too crowded so I decided to make it even more so. :-)
This cache is dedicated to George Herbert Leigh Mallory (18 June 1886 – 8/9 June 1924) George was an English mountaineer who took part in the first three British expeditions to Mount Everest in the early 1920s.During the 1924 British Mount Everest Expedition, Mallory and his climbing partner Andrew "Sandy" Irvine both disappeared somewhere high on the North-East ridge during their attempt to make the first ascent of the world's highest mountain. The pair's last known sighting was only a few hundred metres from the summit.
Mallory's ultimate fate was unknown for 75 years, until his body was discovered in 1999 by an expedition that had set out to search for the climbers' remains. Whether or not Mallory and Irvine reached the summit before they died remains a subject of speculation and continuing research.
Mallory is famously quoted as having replied to the question "Why do you want to climb Mount Everest?" with the retort "Because it's there”.
This is cache is not for everybody. The path is easy enough but then the path does not reach the cache… The cache is on the North side of the creek and up the hill. Why is the cache stuck up on that hill - you ask. And I will answer: "Because it's there".
The hill is not dangerous but it is a serious climb. Look for a cluster of large rocks. I also made a pile of stones on top of the cluster but then I noticed that there are similar piles on other clusters (Very suspicious – if you ask me)
Finally, a word of warning. This path is extremely muddy during the winter. I recommend waiting until there is at least a week of sunny weather or bring boots that can handle the task.
