Geocache Description:

The Modern Ghost Town Series :

On the radio I have heard journalists reporting that if you are
laid off or fired you should use the opportunity to start up a
small business. However........., you could lose your life savings doing so.
This series will show how difficult it is to do business in
Michigan.

At this location was Sizzlin Subs & Salads. It was started 10 years ago by Mic & Wes. It was started as a Ice Cream Shop. That did not cover the bills. They were hard working and not ready to give up. So, they expanded to a food menue. However, with the high cost of food and labor, they were losing money. They were purchasing from a food giant (I can't mention their name here) at higher prices, Processed Salads and premade soups. These items were too expensive. With no margins. So, they started purchasing unprocessed food items and doing all the work theirselves, but that increased their hours worked by 1/3 and dropped their rate of pay further! They tried a last ditch effort to add Fish & Chips to their menue....... but failed! That was the final blow!
Main reason for failure: High Cost of Food. High Rent: $2300.00 / month plus $250/ Month Lawn/Snow/Maint. Building Costs. Also: Fierce Competition!
Declining sales due to $5.00 Subs and $5.00 Pizzas from some fierce large competitors. The owners were making less than their workers at low wages. They were working over 60+ hours a week each. Length of Business to Failure: 10 Years

The cache is a easy Lock N Lock. Not hard like this business.

The owners of the business have a nice note on their window to read.
