Geocache Description:

Mega Scotland 2014

Finlay's Pollok Park Trail 5
Pollok Country Park

The Park is Glasgow largest park and the only Country Park within Glasgow. It's extensive woodlands and gardens provide a quiet sanctuary for both visitors and wildlife. I have placed a series of 8 cache's plus bonus in a circular route around the park. Best to park at the Riverside carpark. From here head through The Old Stable Courtyard (remember to grab the 'White Cart Industry') and along to the Riverside walk. From here follow the series around the park back to the Riverside carpark. The walk should take no longer than 2 hours to complete. All paths are well maintained and all caches are placed not far from the paths.

The park is located in the South west of the city just 3 miles from the city centre. It is bounded to the South by the White Cart Water, North by Dumbreck Road and East by Haggs Road and Pollokshaws Road. The main access to the park is via the Pollokshaws Road entrance. Pedestrian access is also available from Dumbreck Road and from the Glasgow to Irvine Cycle Way from Corkerhill. Pollok Country Park has been voted the Best Park in Britain 2007, and Europe's Best Park 2008.

Opening Times / Local Facilities

The Park is open at all times, however the specific facilities within the park are subject to opening times. There are two public toilets at The Old Stable Courtyard and at the Burrell Collection.

Pollok Country Park is home to Glasgow City Council’s pedigree fold of Highland Cattle. Highlanders have a long association with Pollok Estate, as the original owners of the land, the Maxwell Family, were breeding prizewinning cattle here c.1830.Today the cattle number approximately 100 animals, with a nucleus of 45 breeding cows plus bulls and younger animals. All the cattle are pedigree and registered with the Highland Cattle Society and each animal is named, traditionally in the Gaelic, following family names. Highland Cattle from the Pollok Fold are shown at local and national agricultural shows around the country, often winning the top awards.

Visit each of the Finlay's Pollok Cache Series and collect the partial coordinates from each one and place them together to get the coordinates for the bonus cache.
