Geocache Description:

It's time for our second safety themed geocache series. This time around the theme is Hand Safety! We can't reach our goal of ZERO injuries until we eliminate ALL hand injuries.

The physical cache is a tupperware container located adjacent to the Sunnyvale Water Treatment ponds. Please keep in mind that there is a healthy gopher snake population in the area, and at times the bugs are thicker than the smell. Safety glasses are not an uncommon sight on these trails.

The Hand Safety cache series was placed with your safety in mind. Congratulations, you've made it to the far side of the water treatment ponds, and if you walked, you're probably anxious to find this cache and get moving back towards the parking lot. I can almost hear you saying "Enough about Hand Safety!" This cache is only a step or two off the main trail, but a little closer to the water than the previous caches in the series.

The goal of this cache is to provide awareness of the Line of Fire Hazards that play a role in a large percentage of hand injuries.

So what are Line of Fire Hazards?

- They happen when you place yourself, or any part of yourself in a position where you are directly exposing yourself to a hazard.

How do you avoid Line of Fire Hazards?

- Safe body positioning is a basic strategy for avoiding accidents
- In order NOT to be in the line of fire or put somebody there, you MUST be aware of the constantly changing work environment around you. Check out the attached slide in the gallery related to Line of Fire Hazards.
