Geocache Description:

11-11-11
Worldwide Multi-Event - Auckland

This event, being held in Auckland, is part of a Worldwide Multi-Event on the 11th of November 2011, celebrating the date 11/11/11. It also happens to be the 11th month of the 11th year of Geocaching!

An event geocoin will be available to celebrate the 11/11/11 Worldwide Multi-Event. This is a collectable, but fully trackable geocoin designed for all of the events making up the multi-event all around the world, with each individual event having it's own unique coin colour scheme. See the Multi-Event Geocoin section below for further details.

WHERE: The published coordinates - Glen Eden Community Centre (Ceramco Park), 120 Glen Dale Rd, Glen Eden, Auckland
WHEN: From 7pm, 11th November 2011 until late - don't worry if you can't be there early, we'll be there until late, so come along anyway!
WHAT: A huge variety of fun, games and prizes, for all ages, themed around Geocaching and the number 11
BRING: Bring some food and drink to contribute if you can, a bright torch for some night-caching (and a UV torch if you've got one), your GPS with charged up batteries, and your sense of adventure!

Last year we had a blast with our 10-10-10 event on the 10th of October and we had about 110 participants. This year we want to go bigger and better and we've gone all out to take the game prizes to a whole other level.

So bring along friends and family - let's "turn it up, to 11!"

PROGRAM

The event will run from 7pm until late. We will try and stick to the programme as outlined below, but turn up any time and join in the fun.

7:00 PM: Event begins, teams to register with Chris or Vera of team funkymunkyzone upon arrival. Geo-Bingo and Geo-Snap games begin.
7:15 PM: Event welcome - everyone welcomed to the event, and the general programme for the evening outlined. Details of the new Wherigo and Chirp caches made available. The Wherigo cartridge can be downloaded from a computer at the event.
8:00 PM: Geo-Hunt begins - first team begins the hunt. Other teams head out at approx 30 second intervals. Other stuff continues for those remaining at the event HQ
8:04 PM: Sunset. Thankfully, we don't need to coordinate this one!
8:30 PM: Geo-Hunt - No more teams to head out on the Geo-Hunt after this time, to ensure it can completed with enough time left for scoring and prize giving.
9:00 PM: Details of the nearby night-caches (2 new CSI multis) are made available. Experienced and inexperienced geocachers team up to find these caches any time after this*. 4 UV torches will be available to borrow for the purpose of finding these caches.
9:45 PM: Geo-Hunt officially ends - all teams should be back at event HQ before this time.
10:15 PM: Prize-giving.
10:30 PM: Fun, games, food & drink, and general socialising continues. The new night cache is there to be found too
12:00 AM: Official end of the 11-11-11 event. CITO event begins*

*Cachers may choose to find the new caches after midnight in order to make a "7+ challenge" attempt on Saturday

REGISTRATION PACK

Upon arrival and registration for the event, you will receive a registration pack. This pack will include:

- Event programme
- Geo-Bingo game sheet
- Geo-Snap game sheet
- Some Whittakers chocolates

Please bring a pen with you. We will have some pencils if you don't have a pen, but not quite enough for everyone.

GEO-HUNT

The main event this year is the Geo-Hunt - a scavenger hunt that will see teams head out from the event and follow a route around the general area answering questions and searching for clues along the way in order to solve a new multi-cache released during the event. The route, described by turns, clues and other questions, will be provided at the beginning of the hunt, and competing teams will begin 30 seconds apart from each other.

The Geo-Hunt is intended to take teams around 60 to 75 minutes to complete and will be scored on the answers obtained, and the tracked distance on the GPS units. The answers obtained along the way will yield the coordinates for the multi-cache (however all teams will receive the final coordinates on completion of the hunt regardless).

Scoring of team efforts will be based on the answers provided, minus penalties for any extra distance travelled on the route over and above the optimal distance, and prizes will be awarded as follows:

FIRST PRIZE: A brand-new TomTom in-car navigation GPS unit valued at $249.
SECOND PRIZE: A 20 minute sprint race voucher for 4 people at Formula E Indoor Raceway valued at $220.
THIRD PRIZE: A prize pack including a geocaching T-shirt, a compass, an LED torch, a large bison tube and a geocoin.

The Geo-Hunt cache will be published on the night of the event, and can be logged as a cache find by everyone who completes the Geo-Hunt and signs the logbook. For the purposes of awarding "First to Find" on this cache, the FTF will go to the first prize winner of the Geo-Hunt.

GEO-BINGO

An old favourite for geocaching events, Geo-Bingo encourages newbies to oldbies, friends and strangers to mix and get to know each other.

At the beginning of the event, each team will be given an event pack that will include a Geo-Bingo card.

Each card will have eleven boxes, each with a category written inside. The object of the game is to fill out the card with the names of geocaching teams present at the event that fit each stated category.

Sounds easy, doesn't it? But here's the twist: Participants will score 1 point for a correct answer and a bonus 2 points if no other team used the same answer for the same category. Furthermore, a team can only be used for 1 answer on the Geo-Bingo card - any further answers using that same team will be ignored and score 0 points.

The geocaching teams you can match to the categories on the bingo card must be present and registered at the event, so this is a great opportunity to introduce yourselves to others and find out a little bit about each other.

As soon as you have completed the Geo-Bingo card, you can hand it back in at the registration table, but make sure you have handed it back in before 10pm.

There will be a number of prizes for the teams that find out the most about others (and therefore score the highest):

FIRST PRIZE: A 20 minute sprint race voucher for 4 people at Formula E Indoor Raceway valued at $220.
SECOND PRIZE: An Auckland Harbour Bridge Climb experience with A J Hackett, valued at $120.
THIRD PRIZE: A prize pack including a camouflaged cache ready to go, a geocaching badge, a travel bug tag, an LED torch and a compass.

GEO-SNAP!

A new addition to this year's event, Geo-Snap is another fun game intended to get everyone talking, and introducing themselves, to each other. You can play it at the same time as completing the Geo-Bingo, throughout the event.

In each team's event pack, which they will receive upon arrival to the event, there will be a Geo-Snap sheet displaying a random geocache symbol - one of the 7 displayed below - on 11 stickers down the side of the sheet.

The objective of Geo-Snap is to discover, and trade stickers with, 6 other teams with different symbols to your own, and affixing your own plus their stickers to your Geo-Snap sheet, completing the set of all 7 symbols.

Hold onto your Geo-Snap sheet until 10pm - don't hand it in early even if you have completed it because there will be other teams that will need to get your stickers in order to complete their Geo-Snap sheet.

EVEN MORE: We will also be giving away, as spot prizes, the four UV torches that we have made available during the event for the CSI-themed multi-caches.

NEW GEOCACHES

Along with the Geo-Hunt multi-cache, there will also be a Wherigo cache, a Chirp-based Mystery cache, and two CSI-themed night multi-caches published in the vicinity of the event. These caches will be placed on the day and will be available for event attendees to find. They will all be published so they can be logged in addition to the event cache, and these caches will remain in place after the event is finished.

For these caches, we ask that experienced geocachers team up with less experienced geocachers for the hunts, and space yourselves out so it's not one big group heading out to find them together - these are not intended for an FTF race, but rather for some friendly transfer of caching experience from older to newer geocachers, while attempting some less usual and more interesting geocache types.

The FTF for all of these, except the Geo-Hunt multi-cache, will be listed as all of the event attendees.

OTHER PRIZES

There will be a few miscellaneous prizes awarded during the evening, for various categories, or random draws, as listed below:

NEWEST CACHER: YuGeo4 will award one of their "Why You Geo For?" geocoins to a "newbie" geocacher at the event.
LONG DISTANCE: Rosmar will award a 2011 Wales Mega geocoin to the cacher who has come the furthest from home to be at the event.
YOUNGEST: We will be presenting the youngest geocacher present at the event with a prize pack including a camo sunhat, a T-shirt, a Geo-Kids badge, a Vampire travel bug tag, a bracelet and a bag of sweets.
2ND YOUNGEST: We will also be presenting the second youngest geocacher present at the event with a prize pack including a camo sunhat, a T-shirt, a Geo-Kids badge, a Vampire travel bug tag, a bracelet and a bag of sweets.
OLDEST & WISEST: The oldest geocacher present at the event will win a prize pack including a camo sunhat, a geocaching badge, an LED torch, a compass and a geocaching pin.
EVENT GEOCOIN: For anyone who purchases an event geocoin on the night, we will draw one lucky purchaser out of a hat and they will also win a Dunedin 11-11-11 event geocoin to go with their Auckland event coin.
SPOT PRIZE: Darby & Joan will give away an LED flashlight as a random spot prize for an event attendee.

If anyone wishes to contribute, or suggest, a specific prize for any particular purpose, or geocaching team, please get in touch with team funkymunkyzone prior to the event.

MULTI-EVENT GEOCOINS

To celebrate the 11/11/11 Worldwide Multi-Event, a geocoin will be minted and a uniquely and individually coloured edition of this coin released for each event around the world. These multi-event coins are fully trackable and have a unique icon.

The geocoin for the Auckland event is shown below and limited numbers will be available for sale to event participants at a cost of $15 per coin. If you would like to purchase one (or more) of these geocoins, please log your intention so that we know what kind of numbers to expect.

The coin is 1.75" in diameter, finished in polished Nickel, and is beautifully detailed and textured. The coin is coloured with transparent colours that show through the delicate textures and patterns designed into the coin.

Judging from past years, these multi-event geocoins are sought after and very collectible after the event, so if you want one, take the opportunity to get one while they are restricted to event participants only. After the event, these coins will be available for general sale. The Auckland event coins will be strictly limited to a minting of just 75 coins.

Everyone who purchases an Auckland event coin on the night will also go into a draw to win a Dunedin 11-11-11 event coin - thanks Guwapo (Dunedin event organiser)!

PRESENTATIONS

Throughout the event at various times, there will be video presentations running, including photos and videos from various geocaching adventures, along with an Earthcaching video prepared by team funkymunkyzone for a recent Geocaching Skills Day event.

If you have any interesting photos or videos from past geocaching adventures that you would like to include, please contact us through our profile.

FOOD & DRINK

There will be a selection of goodies to feast on celebrating the 11-11-11 date, along with a selection of beverages. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to bring something along, if they can. Don't worry if you can't because you're travelling from far and wide, but whatever contributions anyone can make will be welcomed. The venue does have facilities to reheat food if necessary.

IT'S A SOCIAL EVENT TOO!

Put names and faces to geocaching ids - meet the people behind the names you've seen on log sheets. Share your war stories and get tips and tricks from the old-hats. Most of all, have fun!

All of the activities in this event are optional - take part in the fun or relax and chat. It's all up to you, but just come along and be a part of the action. Everyone is welcome - together let's make this the best and biggest event New Zealand geocaching has seen!

SPECIAL THANKS...

We would like to offer our thanks to some organisations for making this event bigger and better by offering prizes and other goodies. Please click here to see the list of our friendly sponsors.
