Regional Road 8 in the southern area of Ottawa is a slightly over
40 kilometers long. A little over half of that road has been named
in 1990 after a popular city councilor and interim mayor of
Gloucester, Ontario, Mitch Owens. He was born in Manitoba and in
1944 he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He served on the
St. Roch, during a part of its historic voyage through the
Northwest Passage. After time working in the Arctic and in London
he moved to the Ottawa region in 1953.
This is a long stretch of road with many intersecting and
connecting roads;
