Original meaning of the world stalking is track, pursue or hunt. At the present time, stalking is a term commonly used to refer to unwanted, obsessive attention by individuals to others. However, I would rather focuse on its more original meaning.

Chernobyl stalking - is a new type of adventure tourism associated with entry into the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone to visit the abandoned enterprises, military installations, buried radioactive equipment and villages and towns evicted due to radiation. Chernobyl stalking began developing in the early 2000s.
Tourism to the area became more common after the town Prypiat was featured in a few video games. One of them is called S.T.A.L.K.E.R. A significant increase in trespassing the Exclusion Zone was a reason for administrative measures against trespassers to become more stringent. Chernobyl stalking usually involves young people aged 18 to 30. Penetrations into the exclusion zone are single or in groups (up to 5 people). Duration is from 1 to 10 days. Besides the usual equipment used for hiking, the stalkers use radiation dosimeters and respirators. Radiation loading on the body of stalkers is from 0.03 to 0.2 mSv for the entire period of stay in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
Law enforcement agencies record about 300 infiltrations to the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone annually.
