Fangorn es uno de los bosques más antiguos de la Tierra Media. En la época de la Guerra del Anillo, el bosque de Fangorn se encontraba en el extremo sureste de las Montañas Nubladas; rodeado por dos ríos que nacen de sus entrañas en las laderas orientales de la gran cadena montañosa: el Entaguas al sur, y el Limclaro al norte. Tiene, también como límite este, la meseta de El Páramo y el río Anduin.

A pesar de que ser enorme, no era más que un resto del inmenso bosque que en otros tiempos se extendía hacia el noroeste, cubriendo todo Eriador y grandes zonas de la región desaparecida de Beleriand. El otro antiguo vestigio boscoso en Eriador era el Bosque Viejo.

Los rohirrim lo llamaban el bosque de los Ents, porque estaba habitado por las sabias, ancianas y poderosas criaturas llamadas ents, también conocidos como los pastores de árboles. Y era el último refugio de éstos. Era un bosque encantado que producía a todos miedo menos a los elfos que aman los bosques.

Fangorn is one of the oldest forests of Middle Earth. At the time of the War of the Ring, the Fangorn Forest was at the southeast end of the Misty Mountains, surrounded by two rivers that spring from her womb in the eastern slopes of the great mountain chain: the Entaguas south, and Limclaro north. It has also bordered on the east, the plateau of El Paramo and the River Anduin.

Although to be huge, it was only a remnant of the vast forest that once stretched to the northwest, covering all Eriador and large areas of the region missing in Beleriand. Other ancient relic forest in Eriador was the Old Forest.

The Rohirrim called it the forest of Ents, because it was inhabited by the wise, ancient and powerful creatures called Ents, also known as the shepherds of trees. And it was their last refuge. It was an enchanted forest that produced less afraid all the elves who love forests.
