The breathtaking views and forest-clad valleys of Belmont
Regional Park make it a favourite open space for walking, running,
mountain biking and horse riding. Covering a large area of hill
country between the Hutt Valley and Porirua, the park features the
historic Korokoro Dam, World War II ammunition stores and the
original main coach road from Wellington.
Eleven walking and hiking tracks meander past waterfalls and
stream valleys, or follow ridge lines to tussock grass plains with
sweeping views. Track walking times range from an easy 15 minutes
to a strenuous eight hours. With its wide open spaces and
challenging forest trails, Belmont Regional Park is also a magnet
for mountain bikers of all ages and experience levels. The five
mountain biking trails can take anywhere from one to four hours to
complete.
There are six park entrances on the Lower Hutt side of the hills
and two on the other side, near Porirua.
The cache will require multiple stream crossings so please
ensure you are wearing sturdy footwear. The track you will follow
also has some small muddy/boggy spots so take extra care in the
winter months.
But before you get there you will need to play a simple game to
solve the puzzle for the final co-ordinates.
There's a Geocheck to ensure you find the right spot and don't
go wandering aimlessly in the bush. Accuracy may be out by +/- 3m
around GZ, however I did give the GPS a few minutes before taking a
reading. The clue should it make clear where the cache is
hidden.
