Australia’s first ever exciting Geocaching Mega Event WAS held in
Wagga Wagga which is located in the heart of the Riverina region in
Southern Central NSW.
THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED.
Wagga Wagga is
the largest inland city in NSW with a population of over 60,000.
The city is very close to the geographical centre between Sydney,
Melbourne and Adelaide and is nestled on the banks of the
magnificent Murrumbidgee River. There are approx. 160
geocaches located within a 20 km radius.
Wagga Wagga is a
dynamic and cosmopolitan regional city with thriving businesses and
boasts fantastic sports and arts communities. The city offers
a temperate climate, is rich in cultural heritage and has a wealth
of fantastic
attractions making it an ideal destination for visitors all
year round. It is the gateway to many attractions within the
Riverina.
The Oz Mega
location is at “Camp Kurrajong” within the Kurrajong
Reserve, north east of the city, on the road to Oura (named the
Gundagai or Oura Road), about 9 km from the north end of the main
street of the city, Fitzmaurice Street. The 15 acres of natural
bush reserve is owned by the Scout Association,"Riverina
Division".
Included in the
amenities are two large halls, 2 toilet blocks, 2 shower blocks,
bunk dormitories for 81 people, which includes bedrooms with a
choice of either 4 beds or 8 beds in them. But the highlight is a
picturesque facility with privacy all around, and is the ideal
location for geocachers, as it is very flat and has ample camping
facilities.
