Time for another camping and caching weekend, this time at
Charlie Moreland camping ground at Kenilworth State Forest in the
Sunshine Coast hinterland.
The cache date is the Saturday 17 October 2009, though the weekend
starts on the Friday and Monday is a Student Free Day!
Day visitors are welcome as well.
The campground has toilets, fireplaces (need to bring own wood),
and a swimming hole. There are no showers though.
The campground is suitable for tents, camper trailers, caravans and
anything else you can camp in.
The campground is 2wd accessible though the last few km's are
dirt but well graded.
Activities
= There are 22 caches within 15km
= There are forestry tracks to explore
= Bushwalking some going past caches
= Kenilworth Cheese Factory
Please make your bookings for the campground at
"https://www.epa.qld.gov.au/parks/iaparks/gds/IAGDS040.do"
Watch the listing as I will provide updates leading up to the
event.
Update 29 September 2009
Thought it was time for an update.
You may noticed that the area is subject to a total fire ban,
which prevents the lighting of fires, including using heatbeads
even in closed kettles (ie Cobb Cookers etc).
So if there is a total fire ban in place at the time of the
event, the only option to cook with is gas, so take that into
account.
If you are looking for alternate places to camp, as opposed to
Charlie Moreland, another option is the Kenilworth Showgrounds,
which I am told is $10 per night per vehicle, and they have showers
and some powered sites.
Update 6 October 2009
There are no formal activities for the Saturday. I had thought
of placing some caches, but considering that all the land is
administered by QNPWS, it was going to be difficult to put some
out.
If you are coming up for the day, aim to get there by 10am, as I
am sure there will plenty of opportunity to team up to grab some of
the exisitng caches.
The fire ban in SEQ has been lifted as of last night, but if
weather conditions change it could be put back in place, which will
restrict cooking to gas and electricity.
I am aiming to get up there Friday morning and will post
co-ordinates of the camp on the billboards near the day use area on
the right. Might even hide them as a micro to add to the hunt.
You will also need to bring your own drinking water as the water
provided is non-potable.
The overall intent to make this a fairly relaxed gathering with
plenty of time to grab a few caches.

Update 12 October 2009
Well a few more sleeps to go!
Some tips for a successful weekend;
= Need to bring drinking water as water at campground is non
potable;
= If you are planning to camp, a donation of some firewood for the
campfire would be appreciated. I have a bag at home which I will
throw in. Wonder Wits has advised that firewood is available at the
Bellbird Creek Tea House at S 26 37.055 E 152 42.398 (just north of
the Charlie Moreland turnoff). When I have a spare moment I will
chase up a local supplier for other possible locations.
= Weather forecast has next weekend being fine with cloudy periods,
though the next couple of days are windy.
= I am aiming to get up there early Friday, and will be aiming for
the area on the right past the day use area. Its flat, will keep us
away from other campers, and is close to the facilities. But it is
first in first served so we might end up elsewhere
Wonder Wits has kindly provided some up dates for the area
= The Mt Allen track from Charlie Moreland side is still closed,
and the creek is still flowing
=QNPWS have no planned burn offs at the moment, but will need to be
vigilante if heading into the bush.
