Geocache Description:

A simple cache in a delightful, out of the way spot in the Garden of England.

This cache was originally placed by GeekKitty who wrote that they came across this location whilst out for a drive in the country. Sitting here looking out over the valley was so captivating I just had to share the location with a cache. There is ample parking and this can be done as a Cache and Dash, but stop, take a seat nearby and just enjoy the views.

The nearby church is 11th or 12th century and is rather pretty; in the spring snowdrops carpet the ground. Well worth a short wander round and there are walks that can be done along the ridge or into the valley.

The cache had a couple of travel bugs in to start with. It is quite a compact box but room for a few goodies.

Enjoy.

Access:: In 2021, the minor road towards Sole Street to the north-east was marked as "Unsuitable for motor vehicles" a little way to the east by the farm. The hill up to the village has been resurfaced now and the signage removed, although it's still steep and narrow. The road is actually worse now between the church and the farm at the bottom of the hill. It's pretty tricky getting here whichever way you come though, but in ice or snow if you're planning on visiting my Route 18 - Forked cache at Sole Street you might opt to double back to Crundale if you're in a car.

This is a cache I originally found because I drove past the church by accident, couldn't believe it was there (I mean, halfway up the slope?) and figured there would have to be a cache there. The next opportunity I got to drive up the narrow, twisting lanes I did so. It's a great spot and I'm pleased to have adopted the cache.

It seems a popular spot for walkers and there are often people around so you may need to take some time before retrieving the cache box. The path that leads past the cache follows the ridge and is worth a stroll, or there are plenty of longer walks that can be done from here as well.

There are other caches nearby, or just take some time with the view and the shade of the trees or go for a walk.

September 2024: Note that this cache has gone missing a few times over the last 18 months and it's not local for me to easily visit. An alternative container is now in place close to the original. Please don't be shy about posting a Did Not Find log - it will alert me to change the coordinates and put the alternative in play. If you're visiting from a distance away and would like to have the coordinates for the alternative as a fall back should the original be missing, please let me know a few days in advance and I can send them to you. I'm also very willing to send a hint to anyone who requests one. Contact me via my profile at the top of this page.
