A good hike in Cuymaca Rancho's East Side Mesa.
I did this hike, a loop, in about 2.5 hours. I was tying to beat a
storm and recommend taking it a little easier. There's plenty to
see. I saw 15 mule deer, and 6 wild turkeys today. Don't always
stare at the trail or your GPSr, look around. The first 5 deer I
saw were right at the cache location. Some times of the year bird
watching can be great too.
There is a $8 self-registration fee at most parking areas in the
park, and it's best to be prepared, there aren't many ways to make
change in the park - especially during the week.
If you don't know the area, GET A MAP, the park store, where
you'd park for a foot trip, has maps, but is only open on
weekends.
If you want waypoints ask. This is a good hike, a couple miles +
from parking lot to cache, 500 + feet elevation gain, so the hide
isn't too diabolical. Altitude 4713'.
My FTF swag was partially defeated by the store being closed, but
there is a 256 MB micro SD with 2 adapters, some carabiners, guitar
pick, a Chargers helmet enamel pin, my TB. Enjoy.
BTW, it's named for a favorite singer who died as I was getting
this ready.
Congrats ikes for the FTF!
Be aware where you put your hands, RATTLESNAKES are common and
active in the warmer months.
