Traditionally the last weekend
of August, first weekend of September, has been Shrops weekend, an
annual event organised by Team Maddie UK. Last year, ill health
prevented them organising the event, so The Cache Hoppers and
PopUpPirate took it on to keep the tradition going. Rather than
take on the mantle of Shrops again this year, we are setting a new
event which can become annual, but the timing can change in future
years if Team Maddie would like to set Shrops going
again.
Going for a Burton
Come us join us for a weekend of
camping and caching near Burton on Trent, South Derbyshire. We've
booked the entire rally field at
Beehive Farm Woodland Lakes, Rosliston for
the weekend of Friday 29th through to Sunday 31st August, with
additional nights available either side for those that would
like a longer visit. The site is in the heart of the National
Forest and within easy reach of the Derbyshire Dales and many
great local attractions and is centrally located with easy
access.
We'll be having lots of fun
activities over the weekend: a beer related quiz, children's on
site cache hunt, several new caches including a circular walk
starting and ending on site, and sweetie tokens for the children to
collect whilst out caching. There are already plenty of caches in
the area, with a couple of really good series which we did over the
May Bank Holiday weekend. Quite a lot of new caches have been
placed since then by local cachers too. You could feasibly cache in
five different counties in one day as the borders are all within
easy reach: Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire
and Nottinghamshire.
There will be an opportunity on
the Saturday evening for day visitors to join us on site when we
are planning to place a bulk order at the local Chinese. Those that
wish to can of course have their traditional BBQs.
Beehive Farm has an animal corner
(admission fee charged), a gift shop, ice block freezing service,
campsite shop at reception with camping supplies and groceries, a
tea room serving full english breakfasts ("we serve good food, not
fast food"), toilets, showers, wash-up facilities.
Note added 24 June 2008: The
campsite owner for GFab is asking for people to contact him NOW to
book pitches. Please say you are with the geocaching rally for the
end of August. The person to contact is Alistair and his email
address is info@beehivefarm-woodlandlakes.co.uk
Please put this cache page on your watchlist so
you can be kept informed of updates.
