De vaarwateren rond Rotterdam behoren tot de meest dynamische ter wereld. Bijna alles wat met scheepvaart te maken heeft is er continu in beweging. Vooral de toename van containerverkeer is indrukwekkend.

Met ongeveer 200 onafhankelijke professionele loodsen die verantwoordelijk zijn voor zo'n 62.000 loodsverrichtingen per jaar is 'Loodsen Corporatie Rotterdam-Rijnmond' een belangrijke loodsencorporatie in Nederland en een van de grootste in Europa.

Door de veelsoortigheid van schepen en bestemmingen hebben registerloodsen zich stuk voor stuk gespecialiseerd in diverse expertises. Zo zijn er loodsen die speciaal zijn opgeleid voor de vaart door de Eurogeul. Weer andere loodsen zijn gespecialiseerd in bepaalde haven- en watergebieden, het loodsen op afstand (LOA) of het uitvoeren van uiteenlopende verkeersdiensttaken.

Natuurlijk moeten loodsen perfect kunnen navigeren. Deze cache gaat ook over navigeren; niet over het water want dat is een beetje ingewikkeld, maar over land. 

De basisregels blijven echter hetzelfde

• Lukt het niet linksom, probeer het dan rechtsom
• De kortste weg is altijd een rechte lijn, maar of dat ook de gemakkelijkste is?

De tocht gaat route een stuk natuur dat ooit is ontstaan na het uitgraven van het Calandkanaal. Links en rechts zullen de zeeschepen passeren. Deze cache heeft dus echt een maritiem karakter, maar is gecombineerd met een stukje fascinerende natuur.
Er zijn opzettelijk weinig waypoints. Je zult zelf je weg van het ene naar het andere waypoint moeten bepalen. Soms zul je gebruik kunnen maken van geplaveide paden, soms zul je een spoor van de runderen moeten volgen. (Je ziet bij WP3 dat dat toegestaan is). 

De route is ongeveer 5,5  kilometer lang (afhankelijk van de gebaande wegen) en eindigt bij een small cache. Het is een pot met ruimte voor kleine TB's en Coins.

Het terrein is behoorlijk ruw. Speciaal na regen worden goede schoenen of laarzen aanbevolen. Toegang tussen zonsopgang en zonsondergang.

The waterways around Rotterdam rank among the most dynamic waterways in the world. Virtually everything that has to do with shipping is continuously in motion. The increase in container shipping is particularly impressive.

With 220 independent professional Pilots making more than 62.000 piloted movements a year ‘Loodsen Corporatie Rotterdam-Rijnmond’ or “Rotterdam Pilots” is the most prominent pilot corporation in the Netherlands and one of the biggest in Europe.

On account of the diversity of the vessels and the destinations, Pilots are specialised in various fields of expertise. Some pilots are especially trained for the navigation via the Eurochannel. Others are specialised in particular harbours and water areas, Shore-Based Pilotage (SBP) or various traffic duties.

Of course one of the most important skills of a pilot is navigation. This cache is also about navigation; not over water because that would make things a bit difficult, but over land.

The basics are the same:

• If you can't reach it over left, try over right
• The shortest way is always a straight line, but is it always the most efficient way?

The route is on a piece of nature that was created by the digging of the Calandkanaal. Left and right you'll see passing vessels. This cache therfore has a maritme character but is combined with a wonderfull piece of nature.
There are not to much waypoints. That's on purpose. You'll have to find your way from one WP to another. Sometimes on paved paths, sometimes you'll have to use the cattle-trail. Near WP3 you can read (in Dutch) that this is allowed.

The route is approx. 5,5 kilometers in distance. (Depending on chosen route's between waypoints) and ends at a small cache. The cache is a glass pot with room for small TB's and coins.

The terrain can be rather rough so, especially after a rainy period, good shoes or boots are advised. No admission between dusk and dawn.

WP1:We beginnen op de parkeerplaats op bovenstaande coordinaat. Ga rechts langs het gebouw van het Educatief Informatie Centrum (EIC) naar de Nieuwe Waterweg.
