CACHE ARCHIVED!
The police were called to George Cache’s Virtual Avenue home in Groundspeak, MA today. Upon their arrival they found Geo. Cache dead in his chair surrounded by hundreds of his favorite trinkets. It appeared that Cache died of natural causes.
Mr. Cache spent his early life hiking and camping in the hills of New England. He attended High Mountain College and went on to have a career as a naval officer. He invested wisely in the Stock Market and became a wealthy man. He was skeptical of banks, however, and kept his money in a secret location. Upon retirement Cache became an avid geocacher. He hiked the local areas and could have found a place to stash his cash in any of them. He read the Forums faithfully and responded to posts on a daily basis. When his screen name, RNG (Rich Navy Guy), stopped appearing in the Forums his friends became concerned and notified the police. The local officers arrived at Cache’s mansion and found him deceased. In searching the premises they noticed that it was full of the many items that Cache had found in caches. The police found the following arrangement of swag and they became convinced that it had some meaning:
They studied the Bendy Men for days and then decided to call in Purr LaGuerre (GCR2F3), a detective who happens to be a cat genius that can communicate with humans. Purr looked at the diagram and knew immediately that it was the key to where Geo. Cache had stashed his fortune. He even determined that Cache had left a hint in case the searcher had difficulty locating the cash. Are you as smart as Purr? Can you figure out where the treasure is located?
This area is open in the winter but the cache will be difficult to find after a heavy snowfall.
You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
Special Note: On January 26, 2007, the geocaching community lost one of its own when Ron LaVoie (LandRocket) was killed in a car accident. In March, barefootgal held an event where geocachers could share stories about Ron. At that time his son donated a box of items that his father had acquired from caches. Most of these items were taken by the end of the evening but there were a bunch of Bendy Men that were still available. We took a handful of them to use in a cache. It took us a while to decide how to use them, but we have finally found a way to pay tribute to LandRocket.
