One of the benefits of membership in geocaching.com is that you
have the option of receiving notification of new caches in your
area. Among other things, this information includes the distance to
those new caches. In order to calculate these distances,
geocaching.com has established baseline coordinates in each
city/town from which to make these measurements. To find this cache
you must first determine the baseline coordinates used by
geocaching.com for Montpelier.
Imagine my surprise, shock and amazement to find that
geocaching.com does not consider Hubbard Park as the place for it’s
baseline coordinates. I also know this will please some. You can
consider this a very, very small hint, (it ain’t in Hubbard Park).
You are looking for a micro so bring your own pen. There is parking
in the area but it could hard to find at certain times.
Once you have determined the baseline (GZ) coordinates for
Montpelier, you can find the cache by proceeding 565 yards on a
bearing of 105 degrees True from these GZ coordinates. Once there
you will see an area that has been in use for a very long time.
Walk around and enjoy the architecture and look at some of the
dates. Some of you might even say “so that’s where it is”. Please
do a 360 before retrieving the cache. It can be a high muggle area.
(thanks) To clarify the GZ for Montpelier, it is neither unique nor
boxy.
