Clarks Lookout state park, just north of Dillon on Highway 91. Turn onto Hwy 91 near the Town Pump on Montana St, 1 mile north of town, follow the signs.
Follow in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark and explore a unique piece of history. One of the few places on the Lewis and Clark trail where you can be certain to walk where they did. Captain Clark used this convenient rock outcrop to look for Lewis' return as the Corps hoped to make contact with the Shoshone people. Excellent historical site, with numerous informational signs at the parking area and a great view of the Beaverhead valley near Dillon. This is a state park operated by the state of Montana. Cache is available only during park hours, 8:00am to 8:00pm summer, hours vary in winter, but usually 8:00am to dusk. Cache is at the top of the hill, which has a nicely graded gravel path to the summit. Stealth may be required, especially during the summer tourist season. Watch out for cactus in the area. Hope you enjoy this spot as much as we do!
