Good Luck!

North AA BB.CCD West EEE FF.GHH

AA = Martin Luther, like some of the best people in the world, grew up and went to law school (hey, don't start throwing rocks just yet, it gets better). During the summer of 1505 he was nearly struck by lightning and during the storm prayed to Santa Anna to save him from the storm. He vowed that if his life were spared, he would become a monk. He was spared, and true to his word, he dropped out of law school and entered the monestary (see I told you it would work out OK). Later, he became discouraged with some of the practices and theologies of the church and he posted his Theses on the front door of the Catholic Church in Wittenberg, Germany. For the coordinates AA, take the number of his theses, subtract his age at the time of his death, and add three.

BB = Brigham Young was not only one of the early leaders of the Mormon church, he also led pioneers across the untamed plains west to settle in the Salt Lake Valley. The Mormons who settled in the Salt Lake Valley turned the desert wasteland they had arrived to, into the thriving Utah Territory and eventually into one of the most prolific states in the union. Brigham Young led the construction efforts of the new Salt Lake City, including the construction of the huge, granite, Salt Lake Temple, whose construction took 40 years to complete. Brigham Young first arrived with the early settlers in the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 18__. For BB, use the last two digits of the year and subtract five.

CC = Not everyone sees religion eye to eye. Not all believe that there is a "supreme being" or "higher power" Some are adamant believers, some profess that they are unbelievers. Other still claim not to know. Thomas Henry Huxley is believed to have first begun the use of the term "agnostic." The term comes from the Greek meaning "without knowledge." For CC find out what year he coined the term "agnostic" and use the middle two numbers for CC. 1__9.

D = Ellen G. White established (as one of the founders) the Seventh-day Adventist church, in Battle Creek Michigan. White's writings have been translated into many languages and she is said to be the second most translated female writer in all of literature, behind only Agatha Christie. For the coordinate D: The Adventist church was founded May 23, 18_3. Use the missing number from the year for D.

EEE = Islam is the worlds second largest religion. The word "Islam" means submission, or submitting one's self to God. The religious book used by practitioners of Islam is the Qur'an. For EEE (just in case you didn't guess it already) use the total number of suras (chapters) in the Qur'an plus five.

FF = Buddhism (Buddha Dharma) is a non-theistic religion as well as a philosophy and system of psychology. As such there are plenty of "rules to live by" as Mr. Obvious would say. Some minor math will be required here... For FF take the missing numbers and apply the listed math computation: (The Noble _____fold Path) times (The _____ Precepts) plus (_____ Noble Truths) minus (Nirvana, the _____ Jewels) minus (_____ Markers of Existence).

G = The Amish are an Anabaptist Christian denomination known for their plain dress and their limited use of modern conveniences such as automobiles and electricity. They take their name from Jacob Amman, a Swiss Mennonite leader, who felt many members were falling away from the strict teaching of the religion as set forth in the statement of their religious beliefs. This statement, adopted by the Dutch Mennonites in Dordrecht, Netherleands, is known as the Dordrecht Confession of Faith. For G: use the last number in the date the Confessions of Faith was adopted, April 21, 163_.

HH = The Roman Catholic Church comprises nearly one-sixth of the world's population and is led by a Pope, which in Latin means "father." Followers of the church believe the Pope fulfills his role as the successor of Saint Peter, who led the Church after Christ's death. Pope John Paul the Second, was the second longest serving Pope in history at nearly 26 and a half years. The current Pope, born Joseph Alois Ratzinger, was elected in a papal enclave on April 19, 2005. For HH: The current Pope is Pope Benedict the _____. Add one to this number for HH.

Now, don't you feel like you ought to go to church?!
