2:30.
I was in the area tonight on my way to another of those impossible
candcfamily caches, when suddenly this one popped up. The title and
the difficulty rating caught my attention: could it be my first FTF
on a candcfamily cache!?
So I make a little detour and soon realize that I'm low on gas and
won't be able to make it without refueling. I stop at a gas station
and have to wait an absurdly long time in line to get some gas.
Meanwhile, I picture the FTF vanishing in the night. Finally I'm on
my way again and park nearby the cache. No one in sight, I'm still
hopeful for my FTF.
I walk to the cache location in the dark and pull out my
flashlight, only to realize that the switch was left on and the
battery is now dead. I start to look for the cache anyway, hoping I
can feel it more than I can see it, when suddenly a beam of light
shines on me crawling in the bushes on my hands and knees. There
stands a police officer who soon starts asking the usual questions
and as I try explaining geocaching, he tells me he had run my
license plate number in his computer and found out that I have been
sighted several times in the past doing this activity in
Alameda.
I assume he thought that was an activity suspicious enough to
deserve more explanations than just a casual talk because he
decides to give me a ride in his cruiser to the police station, a
first for me! As we arrive in the station somewhat crowded with the
usual suspects for that time of the night, it dawns on me that I'll
have to spend more time in there than I initially thought.
The officer shows me the entrance to the cell and grants me the
usual "one phone call". Since I don't how they can monitor that
with cell phones with data plans these days, I decide to use my
precious phone call to post my DNF. I'm starting to feel a sense of
doom for this cache tonight. Heck, if I can't find a cache in the
dark on my first try, then it can't possibly be a 1 star cache. As
for the claims on this page, well, I want my money back.
