Tempelhof - the X marks the spot

Das Tempelhofer Feld - unendliche Weiten und das mitten in Berlin. Hier wurde Geschichte geschrieben. Erst Ackerfläche, dann Exerzierplatz, später Kaserne, Naherholungsgebiet und Sportstätte. Es wurde als gigantisches Experimentierfeld für Luftfahrpioniere genutzt, die Nazis brachten tausende Zwangsarbeiter für ihre Rüstungsprojekte hier unter. Und schließlich war und ist es immer noch ein Flughafengelände, dass heute aber Jeder und Jedem offen steht. Für mich ist es einer der faszinierensten Orte Berlins. Wer sich für die wechselhafte und facettenreiche Geschichte des Feldes interessiert, findet vor Ort zahlreiche Informationstafeln oder schaut einfach mal hier.

Zum Virtual Cache:

An den Koordinaten findest du ein gigantisches X auf der alten Start- und Landebahn des früheren Flughafens.

Lobedingung:

• Mache eine Foto von deinem GPS Gerät oder einem persönlichen Gegenstand im Zentrum des X und lade es mit deinem Log hoch
• Optional: Mache ein Foto von dir im X
• Optional2: Bist du mit eine Gruppe unterwegs? Gleich nebenan findest du den vermutlich größten Zebrastreifen Berlins. Wie wäre es mit einem Bild im Stil von Abbey-Road ?

Bitte achtet beim fotografieren auf andere Besucher und besonders schnelle Fahrradfahrer.

Tempelhof - a huge area right in the middle of Berlin. A remarkable place with long and controversial history. It was Farmland, army baracks, parade ground, place for sports and local recreation area. Aeronauts used it for path-breaking experiments, later the Nazis misused it to house thousands of forced laborers. And finally it became an airport site and in a way it still is but nowadays accessable for everybody. For me its one of the most fascinating places you can find in Berlin. At the coords you will find a huge X on the old airstrip of former airport.

Log conditions:

• Make a picture of your GPS device or a personal item (your shoe, hat, whatever...) in the centre of the X and load it up with your log.
• optional: Make a picture of yourself in the X
• optional2: You are around with a group? Right next to the X you might find Berlins biggest zebra strip.Why not loading up a picture in Abbey Road Style?

Please be aware of other visitors and especially fast cyclists using the landing strip for sports.
