Cangrats to mzairboy on FTF (and his 250th find)
Galen Hall is not a “hole in the wall” but you could get a hole in one. It has a beautiful golf course and wonderful restaurant. It all began as a health resort in 1847 called South Mountain Resorts. This was later changed to Preston’s Sunnyside and finally bought by Galen Hall Holding Co. in 1911. Within a year they erected a 300 room hotel wing and nine hole golf course to draw people away from their competition. The back nine were added in 1917 and it flourished for many years; a haven for the rich and famous. Gradually transportation by automobile slowed business although many conventions were still held there during the 1940’s and 50’s. By 1963 its reign ended with a fire that destroyed the entire complex leaving only the golf course.
Today it is a beautiful historic 72 par course with a full restaurant and lounge. Spend some time admiring this splendid golf course and its surroundings tucked away in the Berks County hills!
