This ancient volcanic mountain is only a few feet shy of the highest peek in Missouri. Rhyolite rock outcroppings at the summit provide unparalleled panoramic views of the St. Francis Mountains.
Be prepared for a strenuous hike to the summit, but cheer up, its all down hill on the way back.
If you are a backpacker there are excellent campsites all along the summit. There is no light pollution on Bell Mountain. On moonless nights you can almost reach out and touch the stars.
If you are lucky like me, maybe a stealth bomber will fly at tree top level between Bell and Lindsey Mountain. I actually looked down on this plane as I was eating lunch. It appeared out of nowhere and scared the @*&% out of me. I think I know how the Taliban feel!
