Geocache Description:

A straightforward small cache, easy to get to and easy to find - if you read the description carefully!

Philipshill Wood is very popular with local people and dog walkers but seems to be almost undiscovered otherwise.

One of over 1000 woods maintained by the Woodland Trust, this one is 80 acres of mixed broadleaf and conifer. There is easy parking in Old Shire Lane, and there are good footpaths, though you will need to go down and up a couple of fairly steep slopes. Some parts of the paths can be muddy after prolonged wet weather.

The cache is a small plastic box with a few goodies - there is room for only small swaps - and a logbook & pencil. The box is plainly visible from close up, but I am confident that it can't be seen from more than a few metres away! Please ensure that the box is securely placed.

The cache is under tree cover so GPS reception may be compromised, especially in wet weather. N51° 38.578 W000° 32.534 is about 10 metres away and in the clear. You should be able easily to work out what direction it is in if you compare these co-ordinates with those of the cache. There is a good information board about the wood at N51° 38.660 W000° 32.193 which we would recommend looking at first.

Please let the owner know if you suspect that the cache has been moved due to tree clearing operations and, importantly, where the cache has been placed.

Please respect the environment during your visit to Philipshill and leave it as you would wish to find it. More information about the Woodland Trust can be found at http://www.woodland-trust.org.uk/woods/index.htm

David & Linda (marsden29) hope you enjoy finding their first cache.
