The area surrounding Bracher Park is steeped in Santa Clara history, thanks to the family of Karl E. Bracher, an "early day orchardist" who moved to Santa Clara with his parents in 1885 and died in 1967.
Bracher's family operated Bracher Fruit and owned land in the quiet neighborhood that now consists of Bracher Elementary School, named after Karl, and Bracher Senior Apartments on Chromite Drive.
The 3 1/2-acre park on Alhambra Drive, also named after Bracher, opened in 1969. From the park a walkway goes over Bowers Avenue.
Park amenities: Large grassy play area, tot lot, basketball courts, picnic and barbecue facilities, restrooms and a circular pathway around the park perfect for in-line skating or running - and a geocache.
The cache is rather minuscule, magnetic and within the park limits - just.
I got so much grief about SC10 not being in Santa Clara, I decided to rename the old one and put this one up instead.
