Gubbool's Oak
Mountain State Park Trails (.gpx file)
**********
Because of the thick tree canopy and fairly low elevations, great
vistas are a rare find inside the greater Oak Moutain State
Park.
This is one of the better year-round locations and among the four
or five 'must visit' sites. The others include OldBoyHiker's famed
King's Chair GCBC55, OBH's Big Fracking Rock, and Gubbool's
Roost.
Travel along the Blue trail from the North Trail Head is about 2.5
miles but there are several other starting locations and paths,
including the famed Yellow-White Connector.
This, like most 'hiking' caches within the park should be gathered
as part of a loop. OldBoyHiker's Rocky Top Multi GCBC55 should be
the goal while this and other minor caches along the trail are
merely about the numbers.
The flat rock located at N.893 & W.158 makes for a good
chair and the best view. The pointy rock at N.900 & W.146 makes
for a good final departure.
By the way, this appears to be near the location that George
Perry, Catcher of the World Record Bass, crashed his private plane
in 1974. Look around, there might be some parts of his plane in
bushes.
