--- About the Location ---
This cache is in Foster City, a "planned" city built on "reclaimed" land. The land of Foster City was pumped out of San Francisco Bay and the layout of Foster City was entirely planned in advance rather than growing organically. The man-made nature is readily apparent on a satellite image.
In 1897-1898, Brewer Island was created at this location by building dikes and levees to protect the area from the Bay. In 1958, Jack Foster and Richard Grant bought the land for development and raised the land to 4 to 5 feet above sea level. The first house was built in Foster City in 1964, though most of the building occurred in the 1970s.
A planned lagoon system winds through Foster City providing both recreation and flood drainage. This is one of a handful of inland beaches on the lagoons.
