Geocache Description:

A quick cache along a little used part of the Portsmouth beach at the entrance to Langstone Harbour.

The cache is a lock-&-lock container with logbook and pencil. There is room for geocoins and small travelbugs.

The cache is inspired by the chimney that is near the Fort Cumberland Site although it is actually part of the sewer pumping network (Thanks Shocr!).

The cache is located at the turn of the coast near the entrance to Langstone Harbour outside Fort Cumberland. Fort Cumberland is a pentagonal fort rebuilt between 1785 and 1810. The fort is now owned by English Heritage although the Ministry of Defence still have several ranges at and surrounding the site although they are no longer used. The Fort was one of many forts which formed part of the defences of Portsmouth. The fort is open infrequently during the summer for open days (visit link) for details).

There are two car parks that can be used for this cache. A cache and dash car park about 200m from the cache or a recommended car park to enjoy the beach a little more. The cache coordinate is the main one listed above.

Please be aware that there can be alot of fishing muggles in the area and consequently stealth may be required.

Enjoy!
