Geocache Description:

A small park with sweeping views of 7 Mile Beach & beyond. It commmorates an important event in Australia's aviation history.

A plaque at the location features a reproduction of a page from the Kiama Independent published on Saturday 14 January 1933.

"The largest number of people ever seen on Seven Mile Beach Gerringong, estimated at well over one thousand, were there on Tuesday to see the world famous Southern Cross land in the afternoon and then make her depature in the early hours of Wednesday morning with Air Commodore Sir Charles Kingsford Smith at the controls. A perfect take off was made shortly before three a.m. and amid cheers and good wishes, the flight to New Zealand was commenced".

Muggles find this cache fairly often (& complete the logbook duties) so best not to leave trackables in it.
