This cache has been archived.

Skookum Bear: As the cache owner has not indicated that they have visited the cache location to replace it if it was missing, perform needed maintenance, or verify that it is still there within a reasonable amount of time, I am regretfully archiving the cache to clear it from the active cache database and open the area to new caching opportunities. If the cache owner would like to replace a cache at this location, please submit a new geocache listing and it will be reviewed under the current Geocaching guidelines.

Please do not respond to this note by sending an email reply - your response will go to an unmonitored location and disappear into the ether instead of being sent to me. If you need to contact me regarding this cache, please do so using the link on my Profile Page

Geocache Description:

A trackable item hotel located at one of BC's hidden jewels.

This is a hotel for trackable items (travel bugs, geocoins, etc), so only bring your trackable items to trade. Please ensure that there is always at least one trackable residing at the hotel. Please Note - the cache is not located in the forest itself. If you enter the ancient forest then you have gone too far.

The Ancient Forest of interior BC is a unique ecosystem in which 1000 - 2000 year old Western Redcedars grow in an inland rainforest. This rainforest is reminiscent of the rainforests on BC's west coast, but grow within sight of the Rocky Mountains and are therefore highly unusual.

Parking for the trail is located just off the highway. A dozen interpretive signs along the well marked, but unobtrusive 2.5-kilometre trail explain the significance of this 29-hectare ecosystem that has lain virtually undisturbed for centuries. There is a small donation box used to help fund for the upkeep of the trails by volunteers. Please consider donating some pocket change while you are there as every little bit counts. While there please be respectful of the area and don't forget to bring a camera as you will be treated to some spectacular views.

Please note that trail conditions may change by season and that ongoing trail upgrades may require closures or detours on some sections. All hikers should be aware that conditions on mountain trails can change quickly and that wildlife may be encountered. Also watch out for danger trees (trees that are old or decaying and leaning too far as they may fall).
