The Last passenger train to use the Wye Valley line was on the 4th
January, 1959. Now Tidenham tunnel lies, ghostly, dark, and
forlorn, with a cold breeze blowing over its silent rusty rails.
Please take a good bright torch with you. You
will not find the cache without one!
Parking can be found at N 51 40.934 W 002 38.996 just off the B4228
Chepstow to Coleford road.
The co-ordinates above are for a micro cache inside which are the
co-ordinates for finding the main cache.
Due to tree cover many of you have found the co-ordinates to be
slightly out for the micro. Try Woodbury Walkers co-ordinates of
N51 40:724 W002 39:641 and don't forget to look at the
spoiler picture.
To get to the micro from the car parking area follow the public
footpath which runs downhill parallel to, and to the left of, the
quarry track. This footpath crosses the quarry track further down
and joins up with it later. Do not go into the quarry, it is
in disuse and there is no public right of way there.
The Micro is a small plastic pill container painted green.
The main cache is a 2 litre cliplock box painted green. It's
original contents are mostly amusing books registered at
www.bookcrossing.com
Watch out for the ghost train!
To turn this into a circular walk, and less overgrown, continue
in the same direction you were going to reach the cache(south/south
east). When you reach a minor road on a bridge above you, scramble
up the bank on your left, onto the road and turn right. Walk as far
as the B4228. Turn right onto the B4228 and then right again onto
the Offas Dyke footpath and follow the Offas Dyke footpath signs in
a northerly direction all the way back to the parking area. It will
take approximately 2 hours to complete if you take in this circular
walk also.
Congratulations to
Severnsiders who were the first to find this
Geocache.
