Geocache Description:

I spotted a photo at work that showed what happened to this area in March 1984.

I spotted a photo at work that showed what happened to this area in March 1984. It only gave the town name. The area has since been “modified” such that it gives little clue as to what occurred. I sketched some of the geographical features in the photo (power lines, waterway, and roads) and began searching topo maps of the area, but never came up with a good match. A few years later, I mentioned the mystery to a fellow worker, and he referred me to the employee in the next cubicle. This man lived in that town, was an expert in this field, and was able to pinpoint the location. I visited here, looked over the area and believe this is where that unusual event occurred back in March of 1984. What threw me off from my original search was that another set of power lines were built nearby post topozone (1987). Visit the cache and take one of the information sheets to find out what happened. The sheet also gives a weblink where you can learn a little more. Please do not give away any information in your online log. Online log entries such as, “Wow! That is so cool!”, and “I would never have believed unless I had seen it!” and “Thanks for showing me another incredible phenomenon!” are preferred as they will pique the curiosity of our fellow geocachers and encourage them to visit the cache. I hope that I have skimped on the information enough to prevent a web search discovery. Please email me with any more information that you find on this event. Feel free to hike along the trail from here.
