The Zwaanendael Museum, built in 1931, was created to honor the
300th anniversary of Delaware’s first European settlement,
Swanendael. A statue of David deVries, leader of that expedition,
is the figure at the top of the building. The museum is full of
artifacts, maritime, military and social history from the Lewes
area. It is also known as one of the few places to see a merman.
The museum staff would be glad to have you visit. Their hours
during the winter are Wednesday thru Saturday, 10 to 4:30. Their
website is www.history.delaware.gov/museum.
The cache is not in the museum. Cache approval given up the site
supervisor.
