Located in the Chiltern Hills near the Oxfordshire village of
Goring on Thames, Elvendon is a privately-owned commercial estate,
comprising 304 hectares of managed woodland, farming and
residential property. The estate is centred on Elvendon Priory, an
historic listed building originally established during the 11th
Century by a local religious order.
Limited parking is available on a grass verge at the entrance to
Park Farm at N51° 31.436’ W001° 06.202, which can be
found on the B4526 road from Goring to Cray’s Pond.
The cache, which is 0.37 miles from the parking place, can be
reached by following the footpath down a tarmac road to Elvendon
Priory. At the entrance to the priory, bear left and follow the
grassy path to a single track road. Go over the stile and cross the
road to enter a field over another stile. There may be sheep in the
field so take care if you have a dog with you. Follow the path to
the top of the field to yet another stile. The views across to the
Downs and of Elvendon Priory below are very rewarding. This is a
beautiful, peaceful, sylvan setting. Bear immediately left after
‘cache hopping’ over the stile and follow the bridleway
to the cache (which is a small plastic container).
