A cammo'd Tic-Tac container in an open area off of Bowen and Bardin. Getting from the parking area might be a little more challenging, but the cache itself is definitely wheel chair accessible. I think the hint is pretty much a give-away, so don't use it...unless you want a give-away.
BINY In My Life – George Edward is the seventh cache in the BINY In My Life series. BINY stands for Because I Need You, thus, the caches in this series are for people I need, and am thankful for in my life. Each cache will carry the name BINY (pronounced ben-ee) In My Life followed by the first and middle name of the person.
George Edward was born on January 3, 1924, but I didn't meet him until June of 2005. We were having Vacation Bible School at our church and the VBS director told me a man was in the foyer wanting more information about the church. I came out to greet him, and that's when I met George.
George had recently moved here from up north and was looking for a church home. I told him a little about the church, and as we talked, he asked if he could set up a meeting time with a pastor. I told him I was a pastor at the church and I'd be happy to talk some more with him, or I could schedule an appointment with our senior pastor. That's what he wanted, so I took his name and number and told him we'd give him a call (our senior pastor wasn't there at the time).
A couple days later, George called me back and said he didn't have to meet with the senior pastor, it would be fine to meet with me. So he came by and and we sat down to talk. George had a number of questions about the church and I asked some questions about him as well. One thing George was looking for was a place to volunteer...he likes to stay BUSY! And that's where our friendship began.
I think George may have come to an actual church service one time before he began meeting with me once a week to work on whatever needed to be done around the church. Most of the time we worked together, and that is when I realized I had made a new friend. Every Wednesday we would work for a couple hours and then go out to lunch together. I remember as our friendship deepened, I thought it interesting, but never odd, that I would have such a good friend who was old enough to be my grandfather (not by a long ways, but it could have happened).
George now attends another church and has a full schedule of volunteer work most every day of the week, so we've had to move our lunch day to Tuesday. He got out of helping me around the church, but we try not to miss our lunch appointment each week. When I get up on Tuesday mornings and think about what is coming up for the day, it always excites me to remember I'm having lunch with George. George is one of my dearest friends, and I enjoy talking about the books we are reading (he reads 5-8 books for every 1 book I read!), discussing what is going on in our lives and always having a good laugh together. From time to time I help him with computer issues, and on more than one occasion he has helped me with “handy man” issues.
So George, this cache is hidden in your honor. That first day we talked, I had no idea what a wonderful friendship would follow. I love you, treasure you as a friend and am thankful that the Lord has brought you into my life.
