This cache is located in a beautiful part of the Malvern Hills. By car you can get within about a mile of the cache. From there on it's on foot, or if you're really brave, mountainbike. The terrain is pathway all the way. This cache shouldn't present a problem for most people.
This is our very first cache we've hidden, so any feedback would be really appreciated. We did our best to pick a nice location, with terrain that shouldn't present a problem to anybody.
If you're approaching the cache from the B4232, when you visit the cache, if the weather is anything like it was today when we hid it, you'll be very pleased to know that there is a spring on the side of the road at Lat 52°6'3.6139" Long 2°20'33.4429". It serves up crystal clear chilled Malvern spring water 24 hours a day for free. You can't miss it on your left hand side as you drive up the hill, as there's normally at least a couple of cars filling up huge containers with water.
The best place to park when hunting this cache is the car park at Lat 50°5'43.5818" Long 2°20'11.0628". Note that they do charge £2 for parking all day though, so you may want to choose another spot. There are two paths leading from the car park. You need to take the one furthest from the road.
Before you head for the cache, it really is worth checking out Earnslaw Lake at Lat 52°5'57.1931" Long 2°20'7.0831". It's on the path, but it's very easy to miss as it's so secluded. You should be able to see plenty fish, dragonflies, etc here. I actually wanted to hide the cache next to this lake as it's one of my favourite spots, but feared that it would be easily found by 'non-cachers'.
I'm not going to say much more here about the location of the cache in relation to the lake, but you should find plenty spoilers below to get you to it. What I will say is this.. if you think you can smell gold, and you feel like you're 'zig-zagging', then you're probably on the right track ;)
The cache is a fairly large tupperware style lunchbox with an official geocaching sticker on it, placed within a bag. You can follow a path directly to the cache. You shouldn't have to take more than 5 or 6 steps off the path when you finally reach the cache location. I think it's fair to say it should take 20-30 minutes walking (not including time stopping off at the lake on the way)
This cache also contains my first travel bug, known as 'Rachel'. She's got the rather ambitious goal of getting to Nevada USA. Anything anyone can do to help her on her way will be enormously appreciated!
