Blue Moon

O nosso satélite natural não vai surgir nos céus azul. "Lua azul" é o nome que se dá à segunda Lua Cheia que ocorre num mês e é um fenómeno relativamente raro. As luas azuis ocorrem porque o mês lunar não está sincronizado com os nossos meses. São precisos 29,5 dias para que a Lua faça uma órbita em redor da Terra, tempo durante o qual vemos o satélite em todas as suas fases - da Lua Cheia à Lua Nova, passando pelos quartos minguante e crescente. Os meses têm 30 ou 31 dias (exceto fevereiro), pelo que ocasionalmente há duas luas cheias no mesmo mês.

Our natural satellite will not appear in the blue sky. "Blue Moon" is the name given to the second full moon that occurs in a month and is a relatively rare phenomenon. Blue moons occur because the lunar month is out of sync with our months. It takes 29.5 days for the moon to make one orbit around the Earth, during which time we see the satellite in all its phases - Full Moon to New Moon, through the waxing and waning rooms. The months have 30 or 31 days (except February), so occasionally there are two full moons in the same month.
