This cache is located in the
beautiful
Charles C. Deam Wilderness. This
wilderness area is 12,935 acres of forest, full of
wildlife of all sorts. The abundance of wildlife in the area
is impressive: 50 species of mammals, 142 bird species, 36
reptilian, 28 amphibian species, 125 fish, and they're finding more
species all the time. The Deam also has almost 40 miles of
trails, from which to observe the wildlife, hike, camp, fish, hunt,
or even geocache!
Over the last few years quite a few geocaches have been placed in
the area, some of which require a few hours hike to reach. My
preferred way to travel in the area is on foot with a 30lb pack on
my back, but if you want you could also travel by horse on most of
the trails. When I'm out here, I am always sure to bring
plenty of water. Whether it be for myself, or for someone, or
something else,
water is
essential for hiking in the wilderness. I always
bring a couple liters for myself and my dog, plus I carry a water
filtration kit just in case. There are plenty of streams and
ponds scattered across the area, so if you have a way to filter out
the impurities you'll be in great shape. This cache is
located near one of those small ponds in case you need some water.
So even if you don't bring water, you should bring something to
collect water in, just in case.
