An easy grab 'n' go cache hidden near a scenic high overlook in
south-central West Virginia.
Crupperneck Bend is a more than 180º curve in the Gauley River,
located in Nicholas County, West Virginia. There is a high overlook
along WV Route 20 between the towns of Craigsville and Richwood
that provides a great panoramic view of the river and the bend far
below. The cache is hidden near this overlook, so be sure to bring
your camera. There is an old stone wall and a State of West
Virginia historic marker sign (see picture) at the site, and there
are several gravel pull-offs along the roadside that provide ample
space for parking. The best time to enjoy the view is during the
late fall, winter, or early spring period when most of the leaves
are off the trees.
I really wanted to put a regular size cache in this area, but the
best hiding places were just too dangerous and one misstep by a
searcher could have resulted in a long fall. So instead, the cache
is a small, micro-sized container that holds only a log sheet.
Please bring your own pen. There is also room for a few
small trade items, like coins. To get things started, I have
included a nice uncirculated 1964-D silver Washington Quarter for
the First To Find.
Have fun and enjoy the great view!
