Normally I don't like having micros in places
that support full size caches but this type of situation is one
of the exceptions.
We are placing more caches in Henry Cowell State
Park to raise both the number of caches in this park and to
attract more cachers to this beautiful park. All of
our other caches (and all but one other cache in this park) at time
this is being placed are traditional full-sized caches requiring
more physical exertion than mental. This is
the opposite. This is a relatively short walk/hike with
more mental thought and searching at the end. Just to mix things up
if you're spending a day at the park caching .
The closest parking does require a day use fee
(or Annual Pass if you have one) of $5.00. The coords for parking
are: 37º 02.405 / 122º 03.812. At the bottom of this page there are
coords for free parking but please read that section before
deciding where to park.
I can't tell you what the cache container is
without giving away how to find it easily, but I will say that it's
NOT a typical cache container. It's sitting in plain view but
blends in very well. This one should be a little hard and that's
the fun of it. There are plenty of other caches near so if you get
stumped for a bit, go grab some others and come back or enjoy the
wonderful spot by the river watching the ducks or a train going by.
The path to this cache is W I D E and flat. Also, make sure to get
your GPSr locked in before hitting the trail. You'll want good
accuracy for this one. The hint will only help narrow down your
search area, it won't give away the actual cache.
Be safe when searching! This cache is NOT
close to the railroad tracks so please stay away from
them.
If you post a DNF feel free to e-mail me and
I'll give you a little nudge. This is a sign-only cache but looking
back it could support the trading of 1 very small item at a time.
Finally, you will be at a spot where muggles will be upon you
frequently so if you've got somebody with you think about putting
one person on lookout while the other(s) search.
Coords are based on a 2-minute WAAS average but there's no
guarantee that you'll get the same coverage!
Please do not post anything here that will spoil the hunt for
the next cacher. Also, don't be too proud to post a DNF - sometimes
those are the best searches and logs to read!
Make sure to check out the "Chasing Amy" cache a
day or so before coming to this park, too.
There are two great places to park to hit a
bunch of caches in this park. One is free and one is not. If you
are just going to pop in and out and grab a quick cache we
understand using the free parking. If you are going to spend a lot
of time we request that you park in the pay lot and support this
beautiful park and peaceful Redwoods ($5.00 day use). Thanks!
Coords for free parking are: 37º 00.880 / 122º 02.070. Paid lot is
at 37º 02.405 / 122º 03.812. Either way in will get you to about 10
- 12 caches depending on how long you want to stay. Park hours
are 6am - Sunset.
This cache is dog-on-leash, kid and bike
friendly but others in the park are not (for bikes and dogs).
There is a mix of restrictions on the trails so plan
accordingly.
