We ran across this secret trailhead while searching for a
multi-cache that has one stage somewhat nearby. This trail also
leads to two nearby caches (but there are much closer entrances for
those caches). The cache is bigger than a micro and smaller than a
full sized cache and contains a log book, a pen and some small
trade items. Bring items that are of the smaller variety (superball
sized, but not golfball sized). Please re-hide the cache in the
same manner that it was found.
Note: My GPS was acting really funny and wouldn't settle
down even though it had a WAAS lock and was reading 7ft EPE. When I
look at the sat map it looks wrong. The cache is placed down the
trail from the trailhead but that's not what the satellite photos
are showing. I will go up there and try to get better readings (and
would appreciate finders posting their coords).
Note (3/28/03): I've updated the coords to Marwagsalot's
coords. The original coords were N 37 13.426, W 121 55.362, which
were obviously way off, but I'm not sure why.
Note (8/19/03): Coords can vary wildly in this kind of
terrain from day to day. Make sure you widen your search to 30+
feet from where you zero out and just stay on the trail while you
search and you should be fine.
Another note: I think this is actually the upper entrance
to the Heintz Open Space, but I think it's cool that you can hike
from here all the way down to Belgatos Park.
