Merchant Mariners Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Detourism: Archiving the cache as it isn't bringing the experience for cachers that I had hoped for with logs mentioning syringes, car break-ins and urine.

Geocache Description:

A cache located near a major Central Coast landmark though it is not the focus of this journey.

This cache is near a memorial constructed in 1995 to remember Merchant Mariners lost in time of war.

Plaques in the walkway commemorate three ships involved along this section of coastline:

"The Nimbin" which was sunk by a mine in 1939 with 7 lives lost

"The Age" was attacked by a Japanese submarine in 1942

"The Iron Chieftain" was sunk by a Japanese submarine in 1942 with 12 lives lost.

There is no need to venture past safety rails or put yourself in danger to retrieve the cache.

The cache is a small clear plastic container. Care should be taken when returning it as it is easily dropped off the edge of its resting spot.

Choose your time to tackle this one carefully as high muggle activity will present a challenge.
