You've been
waiting patiently for years... The time has finally arrived.
That's right, I'm talking about the Ghost
River Float Trip caching event!
The Place:
Where Bateman Road Crosses the Wolf
River
The Date:
May 4, 2008
The Time:
9:00 AM
The Outfitter of choice:
Ghost
River Rentals. When I was looking for a canoe outfitter, I
found out that one of the owners is a cacher.
Notes: We
will meet at Bateman Bridge at 9am. Once gathered, we will caravan
to the put-in where Lagrange Road crosses the Wolf.
Please call Mark and Don at Ghost River Rentals (901-485-1220)
soon if you plan to rent a canoe or kayak. Don't leave it to the
last minute or you may find yourself boatless.
It's OK to bring your own boat. There is no requirement to rent a
boat for the float. I have listed GRR's info just so you will know
where to get a boat. The event is not a commercial venture.
I will answer your question to the best of my ability. Either post
them here, the GOWT forum or to my e-mail.
Bring snacks, lunch, water, a bag for your trash and another for
any trash you see on the river, sunscreen, skeeter repellant and a
sense of adventure.
Please post a note here when you have reserved your boat (canoe or
kayak) or if you plan to bring your own boat. This will allow us to
have an idea how many boats are still available for the trip.
Caches you may want to consider hunting in the vicinity include
GCWD3A - Six Sicks Icks and
GC136RV - Bitbrain's 5th. Of course I know that you were all
capable of determining nearby caches all on your own, but I figured
I'd help out anyhow.
I have had several people ask about camping.
Here's the best info I have.
The closest places that I would suggest for camping would be:
Chewalla Lake just east of Holly Springs, MS (GCGZHT is there).
Primative camping.
Wall Doxey State Park just south of Holly Springs, MS (GC1038 is
the oldest cache there). Nicer than Chewalla and the park's asst
manager is a cacher.
Chickasaw State Park between Whiteville and Henderson, TN. (GCD84A
is in the park). Pretty nice place if I remember correctly.
Big Hill Pond State Park in the middle of nowhere on Hwy 57. I
know they have camp sites, but I don't know anything about them. No
caches in that park at this time.
