Geocache Description:

This is a micro cache placed in a way which involves a bridge, but is very safe.

This cache is named in honor of Cornelius Ryan's novel of the same name and the epic 1977 film, one of my all time favorites. When we set out to create this cache it was thought that we'd find the old one lane iron bridge that we remembered. Having not been here for several years we instead found that it no longer exists. In its place now stands a very new concrete and steel two lane modern structure...oh well, they say you can't stop "progress".

This location involves a bridge over the Opequon Creek on Sulphur Springs Road / County Route 4 which seperates Jefferson County and Berkeley County, West Virginia. It is an area favored by trout fishermen and a gravel parking area has been created as part of the new construction. This parking lot is on the Berkeley County side. We'd suggest you park there. There is a maintained pathway to the creek from the lot and the cache is not too far from the path. The cache only contains a log sheet and there is no room for trading - so please bring a pen or pencil with you.

Enjoy this scenic part of the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and good luck!
