Back To Basics - Get Mello is intended to just get
you out of the house to get some fresh air and exercise in the
woods, instead of having to do extensive puzzle solving or other
planning before you can do the actual cache. It's placed in the
city of
Marlborough's Cider Knoll / Mello Family Meadow conservation
land.
This 63 acre parcel of land has 1.8 miles of trails. There are
four trail heads and two official parking places. I recommend
parking next to Mello Farm on Stow Road at N42° 22.126, W71° 31.012
as this provides an off road parking lot and the best hike into the
cache.
If you hike straight in and straight out the cache can be done
in about half an hour. But take some time and explore, as that's
the whole point. The land includes a pond, beaver dam, a canyon
with a rapid running stream, "The Rock" and an archeological site
of some sort (and if anyone knows what this was, I'd love to
know).
The cache itself contains finders buttons and some of the usual
cache items.
Enjoy your nice mellow walk!
Before heading out, you can download a nice map of the trails
here.
This is another cache in the "Return to Tradition" series started by
Bubba Riley with "Return to Tradition #1: Burnt Out", and
continued by several other cachers. There are no tricky puzzles
to solve, no tiny micros to find – just a pleasant walk in the
woods, with the reward of a nicely-stocked ammo can along the
way.
