Geocache Description:

Update on 4/2/2012: I've been told that Part I is MIA. The best solution for Part II is to BYO blacklight. Attributes updated accordingly. Good luck! This cache has been modified on 9/20/03, changes are highlighted in RED
Back by the popular demand - a three-part cache based on a rarely-utilized physical effect

This effectively replaces the short-lived Dark Star cache, if you've seen that one before, you aren't gonna be as surprised. Well maybe you will get surprised by some wildlife due N from the virtual part of the cache. I was rather pleasantly surprised myself, and my elem-school girl companions were certainly startled by them. The first part is two-inch tall micro canister wrapped into a dark plastic baggie for better camo. It contains something you need to find the second part. The second part is now a virtual. You will find two numbers there. The first one is 2-digital. Use the 1st and the 2nd digits in the following coordinates: N 40-35.5*4, W 111-47*97. The second number goes instead of a hint, it is the distance, in feet, from trail to the final cache. The final cache is a screw-cup pint-size plastic jar. The lid is only 2 inch in diameter, so big goodies aren't gonna fit (and placing larger goodies outside of the jar may be difficult too).
Hiker's access to Deaf Smith canyon area has long been a thorny issue. I recommend parking at 40-35.667, 111-47.505 ( a short walk N from the canyon bottom) *rather than* by a private street at the canyon mouth. That's because there has been access disputes with the homeowners there in the past. I've seen whole families just walking by the private street on the way to the canyon recently, but some consideration wouldn't hurt. Please be discrete and quiet. There is an alternate access route from an LDS stake lot further N, but virtually nobody uses it, and the trail there is much fainter. Lastly not all Utahns can recognize poision ivy, as it is fairly uncommon in our dry state. There are couple patches of poison ivy near Deaf Smith trail some hundred yards below the cache, almost all of them above the trail. The plants are kind of small and none poses any danger if you stay on trail. Once you are past a mid-trail spring, there are none any more. When in doubt, just remember: "Leaflets three, let it be"
